Power Raspberry Pi by Portable Chargers

I want to try make a remote control car by Raspberry Pi. The first question is how to power a portable Raspberry Pi? There are lot of solutions in internet. I want to find a simple, cheap and long battery life solution. Some articles introduced power bank but it overs $100 and only provides 5v output. I need some thing can provide not only 5v power for Raspberry Pi, but also more than 7v for L298N.

L298N is common solution for toys. It’s easy to find articles and code in internet, pretty friendly for newbie like me. It requires at least 7v power input to support motors. I did some research, 12v is best since 7v may not able to power two motors by single L298N. Looks like one model of Mi Power Banks meet the requirement. It’s high end edition of 10000mhA power bank. It supports output of 12V/1.5A, 9V/2A and 5V 2A. It contains one standard and one micro USB outputs. I could use one for Raspberry Pi and another one for L298N. 10000mhA is enough for me to play the car at lease 1 hour I guess. Cost is about $23.

This is not the actual 10000mhA one

This is what I planned to do. I still need to do some validation before purchasing it. Hopefully it works. 🙂
